With life becoming slightly chaotic at the end of 2019, I soon accumulated a small pile of books I am still very eager, but have had to wait to read. Nothing motivates me more than the idea of being able to enjoy a book care free. These are the books I’ll be reaching for first this year:
WHEN THE COFFEE GETS COLD, TOSHIKAZU KAWAGUCHI
It’s got coffee in the title, a gorgeous cover and gripping blurb. My attraction to this book has only been amplified by the high amount of praise and awards it as received.
FEMINISTS DON’T WEAR PINK AND OTHER LIES, SCARLETT CURTIS
Another title that I’ve heard so much praise for. I’m really intrigued to see the pieces that were contributed to this book.
AT THE EXISTENTIALIST CAFE (FREEDOM, BEING AND APRICOT COCKTAILS), SARAH BAKEWELL
I found this title when I went to buy ‘Feminists Don’t Wear Pink’. The ambience of the French café grabbed me. I haven’t got any knowledge of this title aside from what’s on the cover, so I’m excited to see if my impulse purchase turns out to be a lovely surprise.
MEN WITHOUT WOMEN, HARUKI MURAKAMI
Murakami is already an author I love to delve into. Admittedly I started this book last summer and finished the first two stories. I enjoyed both of them and hope I can dip into the next ones whenever I fancy finishing a quick story.
THE UNSEEN SIDE OF THE MOON, CRAIG BRISTOW
This is a poetry collection by a writer up the road from where I’m from. It’s based on his own experience with mental illness. The title caught my attention and then the bookseller (who gave me the previous information) encouraged me to try. It’s another book I’m hoping will be good to dip into time after time.
THE TRUTH ABOUT THE HARRY QUEBERT AFFAIR, JOEL DICKER
Finally, I found this book in the charity shop. After looking over the cover I discovered it’s translated from a French novel. There’s something desirable about foreign settings (in this case, the USA) and perspectives. The story sounds like it could have a few surprises. I will definitely want to report back on this title once I’ve finished.
What does everyone else have on their list?
